Makena is a 9,007-square-foot residence situated on the Maui coastline in Hawaii. Designed by Walker Warner Architects, the two-story home celebrates sweeping vistas with an open space layout, large-frame windows and doors, and expansive terraces. Interior finishes include floor-to-ceiling Calcutta marble in the bathrooms, imported solid marble vanities, reclaimed teak flooring and decking, and custom milled and pre-finished cypress paneling and beams. The exterior finishes feature board form concrete walls of various depths and widths that wrap around the courtyard and pool. Sustainable design strategies help this home harness the natural elements and have garnered it a LEED Silver certification.
It is an elegantly proportioned house, with a wonderful blend of materials and thoughtful details that add warmth and texture. The house frames the horizon in a very thoughtful manner, and the sustainable design strategies are seamlessly integrated.

We tried to enhance movement through the house, so it’s about spaces of motion and flow.
