This midcentury modern house went through an extensive remodel- it was brought all the way down to the studs. Studio Slate in Denver redesigned the dated interior into an open, light-filled and inviting space. The stair and screen wall required some skillful design moves since there was little room for error. The steel posts were structural and needed to be set during framing. This meant that to achieve the tight alignment between the steel posts, horizontal screen wall and stair treads- each line up exactly with the other- we had to set the finishes during framing- months ahead of that stage.

There is a nice play of materials on this project. The beautiful walnut front door and cabinets, douglas fir screen wall, oak stair treads and floor add warmth and variety against the black powder-coated steel stairs and steel screen wall posts. We enjoyed this project and are proud of the results!
